Empty plate, no more! Fishbeat is proud to announce the development of a new music-shooter: Pew Pew pew! P3 (as we affectionately call it) promises to be the evolution of the hybrid-gameplay introduced by Synaesthete, while taking all elements ‘to the extreme’. It’s like the 90′s all over again!
[a.k.a. Transcend]
Development on Aleph began in September ’08 as an evolved, re-imagined version of Synaesthete for release on Xbox Live Aracade, featuring music from The Polish Ambassador / Ample Mammal. The team size of Fishbeat eventually doubled after work on Aleph began.
The development of Synaesthete began at DigiPen Institute of Technology in September ’06, a couple of years before the formation of Fishbeat. As the first DigiPen student project to undertake an experimental three semester development track (most student games are worked on for two semesters), the team had ample time to polish and iterate heavily on gameplay before submitting to the Independent Games Festival of 2008. Obtaining a professional nomination for Excellence in Visual Art as well as winning the award for Best Student Game at IGF ’08 took the team by surprise and led them to seriously reconsider their post-graduation plans.
Realizing they had a rare opportunity to capitalize on the success of their student prototype, there was really only one course of action for them to take. It took several months of publisher courting and contractual negotiations — as well as several months of burning through personal savings — until Fishbeat was officially established and open for business, ready to bring an evolved, re-imagined version of Synaesthete to Xbox Live Arcade.
